Two Fabulous Women decided to Paint the Artichoke!
I have mentioned creating a segment titled ”Painting the Artichoke.” I would like this to be a reoccurring segment in which we highlight those who make that special effort…the simplest act or gesture. This could include small acts of kindness, such as the “stop and Drop” as mentioned in the first edition of The Painted Artichoke. Painting the Artichoke simply means thinking outside the box! I think it may be fun to also highlight those who "paint the artichoke” creatively. Original creative projects, artwork textiles, clay, recipes…
Having said all of that, please allow me to introduce you to two women who most definitely Painted the Artichoke!
One of my favorite people is a dear friend and long-term client, Jane. Jane is far more than a client; she is genuinely a one of my dearest friends! Jane is a little firecracker! She walks daily, participates in water aerobics class three days per week, and also takes a chair yoga class! Jane still lives independently. Jane is 85 years old.
Recently, Jane was telling me about her older friend, Delores. Delores will be 94 in May, and “looking for something to do.” Delores has been making aprons, and Jane has been giving them away as gifts however, Jane was running low on gift recipients! She showed me the aprons, they are adorable!
I asked if Delores would like to make an artichoke apron, andDelores said she would love to!
I found some custom artichoke fabric on www.Spoonflower.com and took the fabric to Jane ~ and like magic! Three fantastic artichoke aprons!
Each apron has a white pocket, with a single artichoke perfectly placed in the center of the pocket. Just perfect!
Asking how I could compensate Jane and Delores for their time, Jane responded by saying that Delores has a sweet tooth!
I made homemade banana muffins in return for the three aprons.
Take a look, I think they may be the cutest aprons I have ever seen!
When we think about The Simplest Things, I can’t help but take into consideration the effort these two fabulous women made simply to make me Artichoke Aprons. Jane and Delores most certainly Painted the Artichoke!
These ladies have figured it out, it’s all about giving back….it’s the simplest things! Thank you, Jane and Delores!
